Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about LiteDoc's privacy model, supported formats, and how our browser-side tools work.

Are my files ever uploaded?

No. All tools in LiteDoc are engineered to run completely in your browser. Images and PDFs are loaded into memory on your device, processed locally with JavaScript and WebAssembly, and then offered back for download. Nothing is sent to LiteDoc servers.

Is LiteDoc really free?

Yes. LiteDoc is free to use and does not require an account. We may experiment with optional donations or privacy-friendly ads, but the core tools remain free and do not require registration.

What types of files can I work with?

For images, LiteDoc supports JPEG/JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WEBP, HEIC, TIFF, and AVIF (depending on browser support). For PDFs, we support standard PDF documents produced by scanners, office suites, and online portals. Some heavily DRM-protected or malformed PDFs may not load.

Are there limits on file size or number of pages?

There is no artificial server-side limit, but your device resources matter. Very large PDFs or huge batches of images can consume a lot of memory. If a conversion feels slow or your browser becomes unresponsive, try processing fewer files or pages at a time.

Which devices and browsers are supported?

LiteDoc works best on modern versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop and mobile. Old browsers that lack modern JavaScript or WebAssembly features may not be able to run the tools. For best results, keep your browser up to date.

Can LiteDoc recover my documents later?

No. Because your documents never leave your device, LiteDoc has no copy of them and cannot restore them if they are lost. Always keep your own backups of important files.

How does LiteDoc make money?

LiteDoc is maintained as a privacy-first utility. We may use optional donations and privacy-conscious ads in clearly labeled areas to support hosting and development. These do not change how your files are processed: they still never leave your browser.
